When we got into Albany we headed to the Information as usual and we couldn't park die to cars in the long bay parking. Well... That got fathers 'goat' so he rang up and the lady was very nice, saying she would ring the rangers. When we finally got there after walking a
block away, (my poor foot!) low and behold- no cars!
Thankfully when we went in the lady was 'most helpful'!
Oh My Goodness:
The music man!
When we came in there was 2 ways to look for a spot. We were heading down one way when this young chappie gestured to us to take the other road. As we came along side him he explained that there were no spots there as he had walked along that way in the morning. Well.... No sooner had we [parked when we heard this 'terrible' extremely loud (so loud I couldn't hear myself talk) ACDC music coming from his Toyota coaster bus. the locals assured us that he hadn't had his music on before and were a tad baffled. We went for a walk and could smell incense- I believe he was enjoying some 'wacky tobacky' and was 'out!!! Thankfully it didn't last long and he moved on the next day!
The Car wash!
We left Hopetoun and went to the self washing Car and caravan wash station. Oh yah it looked lovely when finished!!! 10 mins down the road- it started to rain. 1 hour down the road we had to travel on red mud due to road works! What a waste of time!!! Someone was 'Not happy Jan'!
Highlights:
Whaling Station:
Absolutely beautiful scenery from this point of the inlet. We didn't go in as it was very expensive!
The Gap:
We used our National Parks Pass to look at the gap and the 'bridge'. Again everything was pristine- NSW could take a 'leaf out or WA's book'! Beautiful scenery! A tad 'frightening' for me at the edge! I hung onto my walking stick for 'dear life' as the lookout stretched right out over the sea (I'd already dropped it once before, when standing on another land based (thank goodness) lookout) so I didn't want to repeat the experience!
The 'bridge' all made naturally our of rock that had been eroded over the 1000's of years was also magnificent!
Mt Melville Lookout: You could get 360 degree lookout over the town and bays. It was dedicated to the Light horse Brigades of yesteryear.
The Old Gaol:
It was quite small, yet interesting. Very cold and very damp!- Not a holiday destination for me!
Brig Amity Replica:
Very interesting, yet we didn't go in- No way would I be able to get down inside the ship! This ship brought the first settlers to Albany.
Denmark- Elephant Rocks and Green Pools:
Absolutely beautiful- reminded my of Phuket! the water was that stunning Aquamarine blue. If only it wasn't so cold- I would have gone for a swim as it was very calm amongst the huge rocks, however, I was a bit concerned that if I did the locals would mistake me for a whale!!!
Cosey Corner Campground Lookout:
Father found a lookout in the campground. Very sandy trail, however, well worth it- We could see Australia's lowest point!
Mutton Bird Island:
We were advised to go and visit this icon of Albany!- First of all is was difficult to see clearly from the lookout due to the trees and shrubs and secondly- where are the birds????
'Mail Safe Letterbox:
We often come across interesting letterboxes, however, this one wins, so far! Wouldn't want to be in a hurry when delivering!!!
We have the best spot in the campground!
If I look out my bedroom window I see the fields and sun (when its there) It is totally private and we look out onto the 'never -never'! Oh Yah Lovely!!!
The Para-gliders:
We went up to the Shelly Beach lookout as advised by the local we met on the beach! The view was Wow! Wow! Wow!
We happened to be there at the right time as these para-gliders were jumping off the edge of the lookout.
Oh My Goodness!
Didn't mum say: Don't hang out your dirty washing??? A Little decorum, please!
