We got up at 4am to travel into Shark Bay and visit the dolphins in Monkey Mia.
Oh My Goodness:
Monkey Mia:
We were only allowed to put our toes in the water, even though the brochures showed people in the water up to their knees. I decided to just stand on the jetty! They advertised that there would be 3 'Dolphin Experiences' occurring any time between 7.45am and 12. The 3 were over by 9.30! Just as well we got there at 7.45am!!! Again the brochure showed about 10 dolphins in the water. We saw 5.
Shark Bay:
At the lookout someone had left a jerrycan. So father 'saved the planet' by taking the nozzle as he needed one for his 'grey water' bottle.
Stomatolites:
Along the boardwalk, father noticed some ladies 'sunnies' on the sand bed. Noticing that I didn't have 'sunnies' on, Father again, trying to 'save the planet' wanted to illegally jump down and retrieve them. Arrrr... NO!
Those straight roads again:
On the way to Monkey Mia.
Highlights:
Monkey Mia:
Even though I stayed on the jetty I was able to see the dolphins close up and had dry feet! Even though there weren't many in the water we did get so see mother and babies, which was cute as the baby dolphins were 'mucking around' in the shallow water.
Shark Bay:
We went to the Information Centre and watched another 3D movie about the sunken Batavia. It was from a different perspective and very interesting.
Stromatolites:
Fascinating!!! They are ancient structures that are examples of what life on Earth was like 3.5 billion years ago and are considered living fossils - the earliest record of life on earth. We walked out onto the boardwalk. The water was crystal clear!
Bird life at Stromatolites:
Watched a couple of wrens building their nest in the rafters! Amazing!!!
