17. Alford Recreational Centre, South Australia

Before entering the major town Kadina we were welcomed by the Teddy Defence. All these soft teddies of varying sizes and shapes had been attached to the fence line along the side of the road.

We checked out a camp spot right on the gulf, however, it was a little isolated and looked as if it had been used more by 'tenters' instead of caravans. No one was there so we decided to head back to Alford and stay at the recreation Centre, which was the old school grounds. We camped in the playground! I'll have to find my whistle!Very appropriate I thought!

On the net, one was encouraged to partake of the excellent coffee and edible goodies in the local town. So we walked into 'town' and found that the establishment selling these goodies was just a food van parked at the edge of someones backyard, which was right on the side of the not so busy highway. We partook of a coffee (rated a 6 by father and their homemade sausage roll.- delicious except for the after effects!)
The sided street of the town had these homemade character mini wind mills. Father liked the man the best- probable because it reminded of him as its legs went the fasted out of all of them.

Oh My Goodness:
They even supplied washing lines at this place! they thought of everything!

Highlights:
My Friend is famous!
The local toilets in the main park had characters painted on the wall near the entrance. One for the boys and one for the girls. My friend won the position for the ladies!

Moonta: The Copper Mines Train ride:
We drove around town to view the heritage buildings and then off to the train. Thankfully we were early enough to get a seat as some people were turned away.
The driver was also the commentator and told us about the comings and goings of a Copper Mine. It was very interesting.
