26. Bromus Dam, Norseman WA

We drove another big leg on Australia's longest straight road, and then more straight long roads. There were no towns, just road houses, yet nothing like the roadhouses in NSW. These roadhouses

looked like they had been there since the time 'dot'!

The weather in Esperance was going to be extremely windy and rainy, so we decided to head back into town. Stay in the RV camp area in town so that we could uncouple and do a day trip to Kalgoorlie.

Alas, we only saw a roadkill camel- no live ones.

Highlights:
The beautiful scenery and very friendly fellow campers we kept bumping into as there is only one road going the same way for 1000's of klms.

Norseman Scenic Tour:
We went on the tiny scenic tour of the the old town. You could see the mountain of 'mine' material there.

Kalgoorlie: Super Pit Tour.
We left at 5 in the morning to drop the van off at the RV campground in town and headed to Kalgoorlie to arrive there at 8.30 ready for the tour. We boarded a bus and drove around the gold mine. We all had to wear high visibility vests and clear glasses at all times. It was pretty amazing looking at the tiny 'lego men' working on these gigantic trucks. We got to see the super pit, which was a bit of an optical illusion as the trucks didn't look huge driving up and down the long roads to the bottom of the pit. We did get to see 'real gold' in the huge (small car sized) rocks. Alas, we were not allowed to take any samples- party poopers!- It was a bit hard to hide one of those boulders in the handbag!

The tour matie babbled on about being able to keep any gold you 'stumbled' against some, however, if you went looking for it you were thieving! As if I was able to hide metal detector in my back pocket!
It was an amazing tour.
