Road Trip 2017

Today was our last day. We got up, broke down camp for the last time, and set off for Hearst Castle. Scott and the girls had never been before, and Stacy fondly remembers visiting when she was about 12 years old.

Along the way, we saw a group of zebra along he highway. Zebra?? (We later found out that they are descendants of the zebra that Hearst once had in his zoo.)

We went on a tour of the grand rooms where we were able to see the living room, dining room, sitting room, billiards room, and the theater. The detail in every room was incredible! After the tour, we were able to visit the tennis courts and pools. The outdoor Neptune pool was empty due to a leak that they are now fixing. This was a big bummer for Stacy – she had envisioned taking a picture of each of the girls in the same spot that she has of herself when she was about their age. The indoor Roman pool did not disappoint though. This was Stacy’s favorite spot last time she was here, and it was still as amazing as she remembered. The girls are hoping to one day win the lottery and get special permission to swim in it. Hopefully, they’ll bring us along!

The girls tried to stall as long as possible in the gift shop to prolong our trip just a little longer. Then, it was time for lunch. And where do we eat if it’s in town? Jersey Mike’s!

Then, we were on the familiar drive home. Man, was it WINDY!

Then, the unpacking began! We unloaded everything and put most of the house back together. AT 9:00, we decided we better eat something. So, we went to the one place we avoided our entire trip: Taco Bell!

After that, we were all exhausted and happy to get in our beds.
