Today, we got up to head to Lincoln’s Tomb. It opened at 9:00, so we wanted to make sure we got there right when it opened. We know how we roll now, so we wanted to make sure to do that right away in case we wanted to make some unplanned stops along our drive today. ;) The tomb was pretty impressive. It’s been fun to see the museums and gravesites of some of our biggest presidents on this trip!
Then, we were off to Missouri. We planned to make a stop at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. When we arrived, it was hard to navigate parking an RV, so Scott stayed with it while Stacy and the girls went to the top of the arch (Scott’s been before, so he said he didn’t need to go). We walked up to the ticket booth and got right in line for our ride up. We were a little nervous when they asked us if we had any problems with stairs, heights or small spaces. We know that we’re not thrilled about heights or small spaces, but we said we were fine. Once the doors to our pod opened for us to get it, and we saw what it looked like, a slight panic set in. These things seat 5 people right next to each other, and look like pods into an alien spaceship. Even if you don’t have any issues with small spaces, you will in here! We reminded ourselves to take deep breaths and that thousands of people had done his before us. It was still pretty eerie though. When the doors opened at the top, we were really happy to get out and walk along the hallway for a little bit to look out over the city. The fear of heights kicked in a little here though too, so we looked out of the windows, took our pictures, and then quickly got back in line to go down. We’re glad we did it, but it’s probably a one time thing.
We got back on the road and headed to our RV park. We thought about making another stop along the way, but today’s drive seemed SO LONG. So, we didn’t make any other stops, and just went to the RV Park where the weather app said it was a smokin’ 99 degrees but felt like 111! We did push it a little today and went farther than originally planned. Instead of staying in Missouri, we pushed into Kansas. The fun thing, though was that our RV spot was on Yellow Brick Road, and the playground had a zip line, so the girls were thrilled.
