Road Trip 2017

Today we woke up at 6:45 to get to Monticello right when it opened. We actually needed to stop for gas, but when we arrived, it was perfect timing. We bought our tickets, watched an introductory video, and hopped on our tour bus to go up to the house. Couldn’t have timed it more perfectly! Loved how the girls are old enough to pick up on the propaganda that is displayed in these videos. Jefferson believed strongly in the equality of all people. But he had over 600 enslaved people during his time at Monticello??? The tour did include all of the facts, though, so that was good.

The house was truly amazing. 90% of the house is still what it was at Jefferson’s time, and 70% of the items in the house belonged to him. So cool!

Driving through this area was also amazing. It was surrounded by huge farms, or what we would imagine white, wealthy landowners to have as property. Beautiful estates on 1,000s of acres of land.

We were headed to our RV park, but then decided that James Madison’s house wasn’t too far away, so we made a detour. Plus, Madison had a fun time taking pictures in front of Madison’s house!

We are starting to realize that every stop we make, adds way more time to our trip than we intended. This time, we were determined to let the girls swim in the pool at the RV Park, so we got in and immediately went to the pool.

By 9:30, we were exhausted and went to bed.
