Road Trip 2017

Everything about getting ready to go on an RV trip takes longer than you’d think. We woke up at 4:30am and were ready to hit the road by 6:30. It started out as a nice drive with the morning fog hanging around. We were quickly going to miss that!

We noticed that we packed toaster waffles but forgot the toaster! Oh well, guess we’ll just have to use that syrup on something else!

Greatest thing about traveling in an RV – even though you have to drive slower than a car, you don’t have to stop for food or potty breaks! Stacy got to see what it feels like to be a flight attendant during turbulence serving food and drinks (except harder because you actually have to make the food) – quite an art while trying to stabilize yourself at the same time. Opening the fridge was exciting too. Every time you open it, something falls on you! After the third time of that happening, we installed the shelf braces we bought to keep that from happening anymore. We’re learning!

As we headed east, we passed a lot of Joshua trees and the temperature started to rise. We pulled over to hook up our external generator to turn on more A/C. We were excited about that until about 10 minutes later when the generator turned off. So, we pulled over again to see if we could get it back up and running. It turned back on, and so did the A/C and we were back on the road. That is, until the generator turned off AGAIN! Now we were in the hottest temperature any of us have ever experienced - Baker, CA, 115 degrees – and we’re really starting to sweat. So, we pulled over for the third time, and unloaded everything from the rack where the generator was to see if that might work. It actually worked for a while, but eventually turned off again. We were in the Mojave Desert, and it was just too dang hot!!! So, we just started pulling our frozen water bottles out of the freezer and started chugging until we reached the RV Park.

10 hours later, we were here, and it was only 110 degrees! The lobby had A/C, so we let the girls wander through the gift shop while we hooked-up the RV and pulled an overnight bag together. We decided to stay in a hotel with good A/C tonight. After checking in to our hotel, Scott needed a beer, and we all needed dinner. We wanted to show the girls what the hotels along the strip look like, so we headed to Stacy’s favorite – The Venetian. The girls were impressed by the outside, but the “WHOAs!” and “Oh My Goshs!” once we walked inside, made the long day all worth it. Their astonishment continued when we took them to St. Mark’s Square inside the hotel, and they thought they were actually outside again because of the painting on the ceiling and décor of the shops and restaurants. They wanted to ride on the gondolas as we waited for a table at Canaletto, a Venice inspired restaurant, but there’s only so much you can do in one day! While eating dinner, we all felt like we were rocking from the long drive in the RV. It’s a lot like being on a boat all day!

We had our Uber driver drive down the strip on the way back to our hotel so the girls could see it at night. They loved it and Stacy can see a girls trip in the future. We ended up back at our hotel around 10:30pm and crashed! What a day!
