Road Trip 2017

Today we set our alarms so we could be one of the first people in line to go to Graceland! Scott decided to go for a run, and got a real treat when he was out. On his way back, he noticed that the gates to Graceland were open for people to visit the gravesite before it fully opened to the public. He got to run right up the driveway to the front of the house!

Later, we all got to the tour right on time, and didn’t have to wait at all or feel crowded. The house was amazing as usual, and it was really nice to have an audio tour where you could go at your own pace. When we’ve been in the past, we had to try to listen to a tour guide and felt a little rushed. But not this time! Boy, did we take our time!!!

Graceland sure has changed since Scott and Stacy were here last. The house is the same as always, but they have moved some of the memorabilia into a whole “Graceland Park” across the street. We found out that Elvis’s dad, Vernon, kept EVERYTHING, and now a lot more is on display for the public to see in a huge row of museum after museum. It was crazy how much stuff was there!

It was fun for Stacy to go into the gift shops because she was 2 ½ months old when Elvis died, so there were tons of souvenirs with 40th on them – perfect for her b-day trip!

After the tour, we had to have Memphis smoked BBQ pork for lunch with corn bread, okra chili, and black-eyed peas! We all made the comment on how we couldn’t continue to eat like this if we ever lived in the south. But we don’t, we’re on vacation, and just had to do it!

Then, we got back in the RV and started our journey to Nashville. We arrived at about 6:00pm.

Ah Nashville! So many things to do! Tonight we had a tough decision for the girls. The RV Park where we stayed had a water park, treetop adventure with ropes courses and zip lines, and a lake where you can rent boats and jet skis. We could have stayed in this park for a week without having to think about going downtown Nashville to see the country scene, going to the Country Music Hall of Fame, touring Andrew Jackson’s home, seeing the Grand Ol’ Opry, etc., etc., etc. We left it up to the girls to decide what we’d do. Who knows what they’ll decide?

After our comments earlier about the food we’ve been eating, we all agreed that tonight’s dinner would just be one huge salad. Boy, did that taste good!

Then, we got to watch a lightning storm. That was cool from the comfort of our RV. At one point, Sydney and Stacy went to shower. When they came out, it was POURING! So, they put their towels over their heads and made a run for it. Luckily, the RV was really close to the showers.
