Road Trip 2017

Sleeping in the RV proved to be the most comfortable, best night of sleep we’ve had so far. Yeah!! And bringing our best friend Keurig along sure didn’t hurt!

We started our day at 6:15am, dumped our tank, refilled our water, unhooked power, and drove out of town. Today was going to be another long drive day, so we just wanted to get going. Those breakfast burritos we made at home before the trip were really coming in handy now!

Our first stop was to Cadillac Ranch where 10 old Cadillac cars are buried half into the ground. Just a quirky little place to stretch our legs and take another picture. It’s also the inspiration for the Cadillac Range of mountains that surrounds Radiator Springs in the Disney-Pixar movie Cars.

Oh Boy! Driving through Texas, we experienced high winds making the drive a little nerve wracking. Along the way, we heard a rattling sound coming from the outside of the RV. We pulled over hoping that it wasn’t a tire. When we checked, we noticed that the side awning of the RV came loose. Since it was so windy, we had to find a place where we could be sheltered from the wind. We saw a building up ahead at the next exit, and decided to try going there. Little did we know that we had just pulled up to a sheetrock factory, and the guard made us wear Tyvek suits and hard hats while fixing the awning! Oh yeah, and it was 96 degrees!! We pulled behind one of the buildings, found the tool we needed to retract the awning, and started working on it. Scott had to push a little lever to flip a switch, and it was like a jack-in-the-box going off! We had no idea what was about to happen, but the metal rod that we were using flipped out of Scott’s hand and a few cuss words were said. Good thing we had those hard hats!! We were hoping to keep the Tyvek suits for a future Halloween costume, but they made us give them back.

Next, we decided to drive into Oklahoma so we could check off one more state on our journey. We ended up in the cute, little town of Frederick. This town’s nickname is “The Friendly City.” We found a local ice cream shop, and were greeted by a “Hi, Y’all!” the second we walked in the door. The cute blond girl in French braids made us feel like the town’s nickname was accurate. She scooped us all ice cream and chatted to us about being from California (she hopes to visit one day). Before we left, she gave each of us an iced thumbprint cookie to go since we weren’t from there, and these were their specialty. They really were delicious!!

We ended up at our new RV park at 8:30pm. We were determined to have that home cooked meal tonight, and since we all had that ice cream, we weren’t starving yet. We took showers and set up camp. We had huge smiles across our faces as we sat at our picnic table and had that meal we’ve all been waiting for. This was perfect!
