Road Trip 2017

We slept in again! Staying in one place for more than one day sure is nice. Today we were off to Oak Alley Plantation. We rented a car to get out there (way less expensive than taking a tour, and not bound by their timeline). This place was amazing! So beautiful, and the tour telling all of the history was really interesting. We toured the Big House, saw the civil war encampment, and slave quarters. The girls learned a lot, and loved it. They served mint juleps at one station, so Stacy had to have one, of course! (When in Rome, right?) Surrounding the plantation, were fields and fields of sugar cane.

On the way out, we stopped for lunch at Spuddy’s Restaurant, which had Cajun food. The girls both had fried shrimp and fries. Scott had an all-meat po-boy, and Stacy had the shrimp po-boy. Stacy also ordered gumbo for everyone to try and we all agreed that the gumbo was our favorite. This was a true, authentic Cajun restaurant. The people working there had a thick accent, and Cajun attitude. It was great!

After that, we returned the rental car and took an Uber to the French Quarter for one last time. We just couldn’t get enough, and Stacy got a little teary-eyed saying goodbye. This was such an amazing, vibrant place. The girls bought a few souvenirs, and Stacy had to buy some coffee from Cafe Du Monde to bring home (oh, and buy one last order of beignets to surprise the girls with dessert).

Our RV park had a restaurant on the property, and the only thing Stacy didn’t have to eat here was jambalaya. Well, what do you know? The restaurant had it, so she ordered it, of course, and ended the trip satisfied.

After dinner, we all watched Princess and the Frog to make sure we had the full dose of New Orleans. It was fun to see the attention to detail in the movie after bring around this place.
