After a morning stop to the travel agent at our hostel The Secret Garden to secure our Cotopaxi hike, we had breakfast upstairs - amazing fluffy pancakes and omlettes!
We walked to the community hostel in the fabulous sun shine, almost losing Rach to a giant pit hole! Ovi our tour guide showed us around Quito, it's numerous squares, central market (where we got the freshest strawberries) and historic buildings. We learnt all about the history of Quito and its fight for independence. After a ice cream stop of the main plaza, we grabbed a taxi to Mitad del Mundo. After a lot of photos with the original monument (which is actually wrong), we went to the museum behind the monument, where we learnt a lot about the head shrinking tribe, penis fish and other native practices. After this we saw the actual equator and got to try balance an egg, walk along the equator and were showed how water flows in different directions in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
After a very long taxi ride back to Quito, we went to Cafe Blesa and had AMAZING food (def try the vegetation sandwich with pollo!) After stuffing our faces, we headed back to the hostel to back and ready ourselves for Cotopaxi!
