Hostel ratings:
Quito - the Secret Garden 3/5 (cold showers, poor wifi, good breakfast but have to pay, good travel agent)
Banos - Los Pinos 5/5 (good breakfast, nice food and brownies, close to everything, friendly staff)
Top things to do:
1. Hike Cotopaxi (pray for good weather), we went with CarpeDiem and they were amazing!
2. Make sure to go to the real equator museum behind the monument, very interesting
3. Get your nails done by the beautician they book in the Secret Garden and El Viajero spa (the mud bath is an experience, and the facial and massages are so relaxing)
4. If you have the balls, try the bungee swing jump and get the DVD!
5. Go to the swing and take a lot of photos from the left hand side swing
6. Go to Cafe la Bles - try the veggie sandwich with chicken!
Points to note:
1. The cafe in the clouds (at the swing) is only open from 1pm - 3pm
2. Don't book any activities in Banos until you arrive, until you suss out the weather
3. If you are doing Cotopaxi, catch the bus to Banos after the hike to save yourself two hours
4. The bus to Mancora requires a stop over in Guayquil, so catch the late bus from Banos (10pm) and the catch a bus in Guayquil in the morning
5. Ask for recommended places to eat at hostels!
