After a rather chilly 14 hour bus direct journey (Cruz del Nur) to Uyuni because of protests in Potosi, we found our hostel (Oro Blanco) and had some breakfast to warm up! We napped, looked at props and tried to all get hot showers before dinner in Minuteman Pizzeria!
Saturday, we meet our groups in the red planet office at 10.30am and loaded our 4x4 with John and Gus, and Daniel (our cool driver). We stopped at the train graveyard to see the first trains of Bolivia. After that we visited the small town of Colchani to see the first salt production 'factory'. Then we had lunch, devouring a massive apple crumble!
After lunch we drove further into the salt flats and were we took all our photos! Then it was a mini hike at Inca Wasy island (cactus island). Then sunset and trip to Atulcha for tea time (cookies and hot chocolate) and a soy based dinner before bed time (which we put on every layer of clothing we had to protect us for the -18 Celsius night).
Sunday, a 6.30am breakfast, we set off with Daniel to Chiguana dessert surrounded by volcanos. After that we made our way to the Andean lagoons for some flamingo spotting. Next up was Sol de Mañana a 5000ft high volcano, where we got into the crater and saw the boiling mud pots. We arrived at our rustic accommodation for the night, had more tea time and dinner. After dinner we watched the stars from the hot springs before bed.
Monday, another early start for breakfast, we visited the Salvador Dali desert and the green lagoon at 6000ft. Daniel then drive us to the Chilean border, were we got another stamp on our passports and boarded the bus to San Pedro.
