Europe 2017

On this beautiful Sunday we started class at 10. Since we live above the auditorium, we didn't have to wake up early to travel there. We all met in the classroom (upstairs from our sleeping room.) We had a class and then went downstairs for worship at 10:30. We all filed in and took up 3 of their 10 pews. They don't speak English often or well so most of what they say is in French. They did try to say our song numbers and "let's pray" in English as often as they could which was sweet. We sang songs in French and some of the songs were ones we sing at home so we knew the tune. We tried our best to sing along and praise God in the process. It was really encouraging hearing them sing despite the lack of understanding on our part. The sermon was all in French so I just did a personal study for the hour he preached. Even though I couldn't understand what they were saying, I could understand their heart and the spirit with which they worshipped and that reminded me of the unity of the church across the globe. I was reminded of an important concept even though I couldn't understand their words. We stayed for a little to talk to some people. There were some Americans there that are a military family and they were so welcoming. There were also a couple of younger people who spoke really great English and they were happy to talk to us. Then it was time for lunch. A good ol' southern Sunday lunch. We had potatoes, pork, carrots, apples, corn on the cob, and of course bread. I had cleaning duties today. Every day a different group of 6 people have to clean up after the meals. We just have to wash dishes, tables, floors, and put away leftovers and such. It's not the bad, especially since we don't have to cook! (still very happy about the quality meals this semester) I fought my usual Sunday nap (which I reaaaaally wanted) and took advantage of the absence of people (which means the wifi works) to work on homework for the first time in ever. I did homework until dinner. We only had about 10 of us around this afternoon because the rest of them went to Aachen to work on homework. How weird that you can just jump on a train to another country whenever you feel like it. Dinner was a bread-cheese-meat-fruit spread. It was tasty! The peaches here are amazing and they have cool cheese. Lots of names of cheeses I don't remember and also Gouda which was gooda (my fave lame thing to say.) Then the group leaders were watching a movie and made us all popcorn and invited us to join them. We watched "The Monuments Men." It's about the art during WWII, and a lot of the places they go and the art they talk about we get to see this semester so that was interesting. After that short break, I went back to homework for a little more. Okay a lot more. Until 11 pm. I just have to do as much as I can while the wifi works. I did get to call Benjamin tonight and catch up which was lovely. He is preaching tonight so I'll have to wait until I wake up to hear about it, but I can't wait! He makes me proud. I think all that homework gave me a headache so now I'm going to bed because we have class tomorrow morning again. This week we have class until Thursday. We have lots of tests Thursday and then we leave for LONDON!!!!! and also the U.K. in general:)
