We woke up at 8 again. We were up before Benjamin, but he eventually woke up and started to make us breakfast. We were getting ready, but we were glad he was there so we could talk to him about a few things. Before I finished getting ready, Lizzy was ready to eat so she went out to talk to him. She found out he didn't speak much English, so we couldn't really converse much anyway. He told us about how we should check out, and then he left while we ate breakfast. He left us pastries and bread and the works again. This time, he put out only the pastries we ate yesterday and three of each instead of two. It was like he personalized our breakfast for us. It was so nice. The grapefruit juice he put out was so refreshing. It wasn't as sour as it is straight out of the grapefruit. I liked it. The other two were not so fond ha. We cleaned up after ourselves and prepared to go kayaking. We had looked up some places the night before, but we didn't know exactly where it was so we were guessing. We went to the right side of the tour boat dock and searched for the store. We found the store easily but the guy who barely spoke English, if any, told us the kayak rental was on the water (which makes sense). We just assumed he meant right near the store, but we didn't find the store. We kept walking to the right to search for more rental places. We walked all the way to a harbor with sailboats and found a building where they have a lot of boats and kayaks and scuba diving and other water activities. We thought maybe we could rent from them but we figured it was a club that you join and then you have access to all these water activities. There were tons of groups with leaders doing different activities but no entrance or information desk to talk to someone about renting or anything. We left there and decided to go back to the rental places we found the day before on the other side of the lake. That took us about 40 minutes or so to walk that length of the lake. We found a small shack that had some kayaks and he spoke some English so we rented from him. He had a 2 person and a 1 person kayak for us. We were just going to rent for an hour so it was going to be cheap between us all. The kayaks were on wheels so we just wheeled them a couple hundred feet to the beach and boom! We were kayaking in the middle of lake Annecy. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The water was a teal blue and so CLEAR. You could see so far down but it was really deep there so you can't see the bottom but it was beautiful. We were just sitting in the middle of this still clear water and surrounded by towering mountains. Majestic. The mountains were like dark hazy shadows but also you could see their outline perfectly against the sky. The sun was shining down right on the water and the water sparkled and shimmered like a thousand diamonds. I wanted to sit on the water for the whole day. It was so perfect I wanted to cry. We took lots of pictures and just relaxed. We did not want to leave the lake. We hesitantly paddled back to shore. We returned the kayaks and paid and then walked back down to the beach. Annah had prepared to swim that day so she jumped in and I had on stretchy pants and I didn't care if they got wet so I waded out into the water a bit. Again. I can't stress this enough. The water is perfectly clear. The sand was so soft. It felt like a soft blanket under your toes. The sand was so strange. It was like clay sand almost. When you picked the sand up, you could shape it and form it but it would also fall away like sand. It wasn't rocky, it wasn't gritty, it wasn't mud, it wasn't dirt, you didn't sink into it. It was just perfect soft sand. Who knew. We again, hesitated to leave because it meant our time in Annecy was coming to a close, but it was 1 and we needed to go back to our apartment to change and leave before 2. As we walked back, I kept looking back and saying goodbye to the beauty. I knew it would be our last time together. I fell in love in Annecy. I fell in love with that lake and those mountains and I will never forget them. It took about 30 minutes to walk back, and we changed and gathered our belongings. We said one last goodbye to the apartment that served us well and walked to the quick burger to grab a cheap and quick lunch. I got a burger and a milkshake and it tasted much better today than it did yesterday. We walked to the train station and boarded our train since it was already there. We took about a 40 minute train ride. We switched at an intermediate train station but we had to wait about 20 minutes there. We got on our last hour train ride. The train ride was filled with such beauty. Tree filled mountains and teal and jade lakes and rivers. Rocky cliffs and rocky banks. Rolling hills and trees of green and orange. It was beautiful. We finally made it to Geneva and we had some trouble finding the hostel but we eventually made it. We sat in the hostel for a little while using the wifi, and we are sharing our room with 1 strange girl but she speaks English and seems not sketchy so it's all good. Hannah and Abby finally met up with us here and we talked about our trips and tried to find something to eat. We couldn't find a place so we decided to wander. We walked along the lake looking for cheap food. We decided to go to a market and just buy some bread, cheese, and meat. It wasn't very good haha. We struggled. We sat by the lake eating our sad sandwiches. We walked back to the hostel and showered in the strange showers and packed for our flight tomorrow. You had to keep pressing the button to keep the water on...not super convenient, but they were kind of like campground showers so I was used to it. The hostel is pretty much a dorm. Not terrible. Tomorrow: flight to Dublin
Fun facts: a random gal asked if we had some shower shoes she could borrow. We didn't. She was nice though. I wasn't super impressed by Geneva but we didn't see a whole lot of it. I'm not really sure what people of "Swiss" descent typically look like still. It was a very eclectic group of people.
Shoutout: Our amazing God for creating the most beautiful world and for giving me the gift of being able to see perfection with my eyes, to smell the water, to feel the sand, and to experience complete peace and security that I serve a great and perfect God.
