This morning our goal was Grindelwald. We were catching a train at 9:50 and meeting up with David Mary Beth and Abigail. We had to catch a bus from near our Airbnb to the station first so we woke up at about 8 to leave by 9. We only have one bathroom for 6 girls and I forgot that would be a problem for timing so I’ll probably have to wake up earlier next time. I also made my sandwich for the day. When I opened up the meat we thought was ham. I was met with a very strong herbal odor. But it also smelled like corned beef, which I don’t like that much. The smell was not sitting well with me. I ate some Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast and then finished getting ready. I thought it would be like 40 all day and cold so I put on a lot of layers. When we made it to the train station, we had to buy tickets to the grindelwald train station because it’s not covered on the Eurail pass for some reason. We met the others and got on the train. We were switching at ost and the other three had to buy their tickets with 10 minutes. They made it and we ascended the mountain. Once we made it to the top we weren’t really sure where to find hiking. We walked to a visitor center and asked where the hiking was. A bit of a noob question. She said we should take another train higher up but it was going to cost 60 dollars and well we just wanted to hike for free. She pointed out some trails but we really had no clue where they were so we just started walking towards the mountains. We finally found a trail head and started hiking. The chalets here are the cutest little log cabins ever. I would totally move here. Everyone’s houses look so warm and homey and adorable. They also just have like random cows, goats, and alpacas in their back yards. And lots of cats. It was a pretty steep hike because I meant mountain, but it was worth it. We stopped at about noon to eat lunch. Our view was fab. Snow capped mountains and a valley with cute chalets. Perf. We continued hiking for another hour or so. We entered the woods at one point and it felt like we were the only people in the world. Very peaceful and beautiful. Pines and moss. Fresh clean air. It was a little hard to breathe but I didn’t mind. There were little creeks from melted snow everywhere too. We finally hiked to where the tree line ends and if we had kept hiking, I’m sure the view would’ve been stellar but we were met with a towering cliff and we needed to hear back so we stopped there. It was gorgeous though. We hiked back down and no time and we were going to catch and earlier train because no shops or anything were open. I guess it’s their off season already. It’s very weird that they just close though. I’m not sure how they make money. Annah and I wanted hot chocolate so we found a place and it hit the spot. Then we found a store that sold everything I would ever want. We told the group we wanted to stay and would catch the next train. I bought a lot of gifts but they are perfect. We took the train back and stopped by a grocery store to pick up some food. It was perfect. Almost like an American store. I loved it. We walked back to our place. We weren’t sure where we were going since we had always taken the bus but we figured it out. We waited on the other three to join us for dinner and David and Mary Beth made us chicken casserole with garlic bread and green beans. It was tasty. Family dinner night two was a success. We wanted to watch a scary movie next so we watched the conjuring and I’m gonna die. I hate scary movies. I finished stranger things season 2. Love. I talked to Ben a bit and cleaned the kitchen some and the showered and slept. Successful day one in Switzerland. I love it!!!
