Today’s goal was Lauterbrunen.
We were catching a 10:48 bus for a 11:15 train so we didn’t have to wake up too early. I woke up around 9 and made some eggs breakfast and cleaned up a bit. I boiled some eggs for later and then got ready for the day. I packed my lunch for the day which consisted of peanut butter and honey sandwich, popcorn, crackers, dried mango, and chocolate. We bought our train ticket to lauterbrunen and took the 15 minute train ride. We started walking towards this huge waterfall and hiked up towards the cliff and hiked behind it. It was beautiful. We were in a valley between two huge mountains. I’ve always seen valleys in pictures but being in a valley where you feel like you could touch both mountains at the same time even though they are miles apart is pretty cool. The town is mainly farmland so there isn’t much obstructing the view. The mountains were rock towards the bottom and just jut straight up to the sky. It was crazy. The waterfall was also very long and came out near the top of the cliff and flowed into a creek. We saw a rainbow from behind the waterfall and took in the view of the mountain across the valley. We ate lunch at the bottom of the waterfall and just took in the view. It was supposed to be cold but turned out to be a sunny warm day. We then started walking towards the mountains and through all these farms. We just walked on this small country road. There weren’t many people out not many cars either. We walked to trummelbach falls. This is a waterfall that if inside the mountain. We didn’t know we had to pay to see it but it looked really cool so we went for it. We later found out that it is the only accessible waterfall in a mountain in all of Europe thanks to Annah so that was cool. We took this elevator ip and it was inside the mountain which was a weird ride. Also the man who was working the elevator may or may not have purred at me so that was creepy and weird and def made me hide in the corner the whole ride haha. The elevator drops you off at a viewing deck and then you climb some more stairs into the mountain. We walked along the side of the cliff and through the crack that the water was rushing through. It was similar to hiking in a canyon when the cliffs rise above you on both sides. The walk back into the mountain was longer than I thought it would be. The whole way there were views of the rushing waterfalls and the water pools and the water just running down the rock. This water was moving FAST and it was cold and there was a lot of it. All that melted snow from three of the main peaks in the alp range collects into this stream of water. It was A LOT. We hiked back to the point you can see it gush out of the rock and cascade down the rest of the mountain. It was chilly back there and it felt like a secret world. There weren’t really many other people back there. We hiked the rest of the way down instead of taking he elevator. It was a nice pathway walk down the mountain. It also had great views of one of the peaks. I’m never sure which mountain I’m looking at. We then hopped on a bus to go toward muren. It’s another small town. We took a cable car from the ground and to grimmelbach, a city right on the edge of the first cliff where we transferred to a new car. This one took us farther up to muren. Muren was this cute little town full of chalets and farms. We looked at the view of the mountains which was incredible. Honestly it wasn’t real. There were just endless amounts of snow capped peaks and rocks peaking out and peak after peak cut the sky. It was incredible and the SIZE. These mountains are HUGE. I’ve never seen anything to big in my life. When you look down at the valley at the town and compare it to the size of the mountains.... well there is no way I can ever fathom the size of them. We walked down this road towards grimmelbach. This road curved down the side of the mountain and weaves past many farms. This walk was the most scenic and beautiful walk of my life. You could see all the mountains and the sun began to set and glow on the tops and the sky was changing colors and the clouds were fluffy cotton balls. The sky was blue and then pink. The mountains were just UGH WOW NO WORDS. They seemed like a movie. Like I was watching some thing unreal. Yet it was real. We walked past a lot of cows and goats and sheep and ponies. Also these huge dog sized bunnies. They were so cute. We pet the ponies and admired some cows. When we made it to girmmelbach we wanted to shop but everything was closed and we had to catch a cable car back down. Then we had to catch a bus but we had about a 40 minute wait. Our bus took us to the train station and we grabbed a train to Wilderswil. The conductor on this train was a local switz and he was so friendly. He told us all about his travels in the states and asked all about ours. I enjoyed talking to him. We walked back from the train station. It was one road back and took about 15 minutes. We ate leftovers and eggs for dinner. I made some hot tea and went out onto our balcony to sit on her big comfy outdoor couch to admire the full moon above the mountain peaks. I wanted to stargaze but the moon was so bright it blocked out most of them. I mainly just admired the moon. When I came back in, we watched a movie and I tried to work on pictures some.
Fun facts: James Bond movies were filmed in the areas we were in today and Kristin Lilly pointed that out to me. They had a lot of signs and 007 references about him. I took some pictures of them for Kristin because she loves him. There are so many Asians in Switzerland. I didn’t expect that many tourists here. However this is the least touristy place I’ve been. It’s a very clean and safe place according to the conductor man. It has been so far.
