Today’s goal was to do something for free ha. We woke up around 9 and I ate a hard boiled egg and enjoyed some hot tea on the balcony. It was a beautiful day already. I cleaned and packed my lunch and then got ready for the day. We were catching a bus to town around 11:45 so we had a nice relaxing morning. When we got to Interlaken, we shopped a little to use up our remaining franc cash and then went to the post office. We had to mail some Swiss Army knives back to the facility since we can’t fly with them when traveling to and from Greece. That was a bit complicated because we had to buy the packaging there and I had to figure out how to label there and then send it and then they didn’t accept visa so we all had to scrounge for change to pay for it and whew it was a mess. But we did it. Now hopefully they arrive safely. We ate some food outside the post office and we saw Hannah’s cute pilot from paragliding and I think he was hiding from us haha. We walked to the train station around 1 and took a train to Thun. A city halfway around the lake. We started walking towards the lake but the sidewalk ended so we had to walk back into town and around the edge of the water to get back out towards the main part of the lake. It was about an hour walk in all and we found a nice spot under a tree to sit by the lake and snack on some food and watch the birds. The water here is also very crystal clear and blue and teal and aqua and green and pretty pretty. The ducks, seagulls, coots, and swans all gathered near us in hope of eating some crumbs. They really really like food. A big white fluffy dog joined us at one point and was the cutest thing ever. The view of the mountains obviously tops it all. It’s incredible how majestic they are. So white and rocky and beautiful. They stretch for miles and miles in all directions. I wish I could put the view in a box and then everytime I want to see the view i just open the box and out it comes! Unfortunately, I only get to appreciate the view for a little bit and then I’d have to travel back here to ever see it again. Which I’m down with, just don’t know about my bank account. But boy am I sad to leave Switzerland. What a country. What a creation. Wow. I am smitten by the alps!!!! We walked back to the train station, took the train to Interlaken, took the bus to Wilderswil, and went to the store. We had to get milk and personal snacks for tomorrow’s travel day. Also I loaded up on Swiss chocolate. On the walk back, we saw this tourist center (which is random because Wilderswil is a small city without many tourists and it was like in an obscure building) with posters hanging in the window. These vintage posters are popular here and I really wanted one, but couldn’t find one I loved. But they had one! So I had to buy it. They also had cute painted cards of the mountains. Finally we rushed home to sit outside and enjoy our last view of the mountains and the fresh mountain air. We watched Ben and Amelia be recognized on homecoming court in chapel online. That was so cool and sad. I’m so upset I miss all the exciting things in Ben’s life. I cheer you on from afar though! We also used our fondue hut. We melted some chocolate and dipped cake, marshmallows, cookies, pretzels, and bananas in it. It was quite a treat and a great way to end Switzerland. Annah made us some potatoes and we finished off our leftovers for dinner. I spent the rest of the night trying to pick a wedding photographer and packing up. I will be so sad to say goodbye to Switzerland. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life. Wow.
Fun facts: there are a lot of edelweiss things here too like in Austria. We have really enjoyed cooking in our Airbnb and not having to decide on places to eat everyday. We successfully did a free activity today!
Shoutout: ben for being on homecoming court and giving me the cutest shoutouts!
