SophieMaree's Travel Adventures

This morning Ian, Nat, Tracey & I woke up nice & early to go on a sunrise rice trekking hike around where we were staying in Ubud. The hike started at 7.30am, it was a nice long walk and already at this time of the morning it was starting to really heat up, feeling like we were very much in for another massively humid day. The rice trekking tour was lovely, there weren’t a ton of people on the walk and it was just nice to be outside so early watching the locals tending to their rice fields & enjoying a bit of exercise to walk off the cocktails & massive meals we’ve been eating.

After our rice trekking tour, we went back to our villas to wake up Pete & Allan so that we could go to the restaurant for breakfast. We are leaving Ubud today, onto Legion which will be our last stop in Bali before we go home (which is a really upsetting thought, it is going way to quickly!) Over breakfast we decided to quickly head out into the centre of town to view one of the local temples before our driver picks us up for Legion just after lunchtime.

We made our way over to the beautiful Pura Taman Saraswati temple, it wasn’t overly large but the golden and brown colours of the temple surrounded by the loveliest flowers and ponds made it stand out so much. A quick viewing of the temple, a couple of happy snaps, a little wander around the local markets (where I purchased some coasters) and a pit stop at Starbucks for a coffee then we were on our way back to our villa for some quick last minute packing before our driver turns up to take us onto Legion.

The drive between Ubud & Legion took just over an hour, I was awake enough to watch the school children running around the streets after school was out – watching all of the Seniors jump on their scooters whilst the younger students waited for their parents to pick them up before deciding I really needed a nap. I most definitely am not a morning person & after being up so early this morning for our sunrise trek I needed a much needed nap before I could make it through tonight! Ha

We arrived in Legion, our new accommodation was in a bit of a backstreet within a reasonably dodgy area. Due to this our villa had organised 24/7 security to be at our door throughout the duration of our stay, was kind of weird at first but after a while we got used to it & regularly had chats to him as we were coming and going (& sometimes offering him a beer or two for his efforts!) Today has been really humid so as soon as we arrived, we decided to swim in the pool for a few hours before getting hungry. Pete wanted to stay and swim so the rest of us hopped out of the water & made our way up the road to the local convenience store for some snacks to get us through (mostly involving tons of alcohol, chocolates & lollies) all the yummy stuff! Haha

We then decided on some Japanese for lunch, something a bit more filling to get us through to dinner time. Pete & I had never had Japanese food before so it was really pot luck with me guessing what he would like to eat. I ended up going for a beef & a chicken dish, figured it would be the safest bet either way lol. The food was actually really yummy, I was pleasantly surprised. Pete & I are off to Japan in a couple of months, so it was nice to get a little taste of what we should expect over in Japan.

After an arvo of just chilling out by the pool, we decided to go out for dinner tonight at La Louchiola – apparently it is a really fancy restaurant just off the beaches off Kuta with the most amazing view. Let me tell you, Allan & Ian weren’t wrong. This restaurant is honestly amazing, the bridge you had to walk over, past the fountains then onto the sand with this stunning location is the best place for a meal with anyone you may be with! There were tons of lights strung all over the place, lovely music and the sound of the waves crashing along the ocean – it was honestly divine!

We were a little bit early for our reservation so we went to a little bar across the road, to chill out & have some pre dinner drinks. Again we were by the ocean so the views were lovely and the atmosphere was just super chill – I love that

about Bali, no one is in any real rush everyone is just having a nice time doing what they can to make a living. It’s a nice change of pace.

After dinner we made our way back to our villa for some beers and more night swims, I really am going to miss having my own private pool & the ability to have swims at any hour of the day and night. Allan & Ian are going on a diving tour tomorrow so we have the day completely free to do whatever we want & I am absolutely keen to hit the shops!
