SophieMaree's Travel Adventures

Woke up today to a pretty crappy day, weather wise. It was so foggy outside and the wind was just freezing but it was our day for the snow so we were super excited to be finally hitting up the slopes!

The plan was to visit The Remarkable snow mountain today and we will head over to Coronets Peak tomorrow for the twilight session - should be amazing..We arrived at a place called The Station where we purchase all of our tickets from, we walked in there and was advised that due to the wind The Remarkables snow mountain had been shut for the day and Coronets Peak was the only one open - s*** go! We had to book both days at Coronets Peak due to the twilight skiing only being available at that mountain on a Friday night so we missed out on going to the Remarkables this time around - s*** go!

Oh well, we caught the bus shuttle up to the mountain which was about a half hour drive away. Once we got there it was so freezing and foggy, terrible conditions, not all Ski lifts were open meaning all of the advanced slopes could not be accessed which meant the few slopes that were open were PACKED. We only got about 3 runs down the mountain in each before they ended up closing down the lifts all together due to the fog and wind. It was so crappy as you pay so much money to go up the snow for that day and to only have 3 runs is just crappy but we made the most out of what we could, we are on holidays in NZ so no way were we going to let that dampen our spirits too much and besides we had a super nice dinner booked in at the Skyline Gondola looking over the whole of Queenstown so we were in for a great night for sure :)

Upon arriving back from the snow field we walked back down to The Station booking centre and booked in Jet Boating for tomorrow morning, super excited for that - apparently it is one of the best in the world! We had a look in a few snow shops around town, I found a really nice pair of Skis and Bindings for fairly cheap but when you add it to the extra baggage I needed to bring home it was just too much hassle so I decided against buying them this time around.

We headed up to the Skyline Gondola and unfortunately our bad luck didn't end at the Snow fields, this was also closed for the night due to the heavy winds (you need to catch the gondola in the sky to go up) another stick in the side as it was our last night here to do that as we leave on Saturday and tomorrow night we will be at the snow fields until about 9pm.

We decided to head downtown to the pub for a few drinks and to decide where to go for dinner now that our original plan had failed. We decided on a fancy 5 star restuarant on the lake, something I don't usually do. It was really nice on the inside and the staff were great, not to mention super warm inside which was a far cry from the freezing weather outside! Lol.

After dinner we went to another pub for some more drinks before heading into the minus 5 bar, wooh - we had fun there. $5 cocktails and they gave you snow suits to dress up in to keep you warm, you were only allowed in there for no more than 30 minutes as it was soo cold but it was a fantastic experience, we all enjoyed it alot.

After Minus 5 bar we went and chilled out at Harry's pool hall for a few beers and a game of pool, which was fun although Adam beat Pete and I by a mile it was still so much fun. We need more pool halls on the coast that's for sure, I don't even think we have any...

At about midnight we decided to walk back to the apartment to get some sleep as we needed to be up super early to make the shuttle bus for our Jet Boating experience - super excited for that, wooh.

Nighty night xx
