JAPAN!
Yep, that's right. Today we arrived in Tokyo, Japan and boy has it been a massive day to get here. We had an early flight from Sydney airport at 6am this morning so decided to book accomodation close to the airport on Friday night. Silly me though, after arriving at our Sydney accomodation at roughly 11.30pm realised I had left my travel money card at home...fuck. Thankfully my younger brother met me halfway so I didn't have to do the 3 hour round trip home then back to our hotel again but all in all, I ended up with 15 minutes sleep prior to take off this morning, gah!

We boarded our flight with Qantas this time around, I've flown with them domestically and been quite impressed but this is our first international with them and I must say, I am still impressed. The inflight entertainment was good (not as good as Virgin but still good), the seats were roomy and the food just kept on coming - it was great!

I managed to sleep probably 7 out of the 10 hours we flew, this is usual for me as I do hate flying but I also gained some much needed sleep. We landed in Tokyo at about 6pm, cleared customs and retrieved our baggage which actually wasn't too bad - it was one of the quickest so far.

We made our way into the underground train line, received our JR passes (Japan rail) and then made our way to the Nerita Express, Tokyo bound. It's hard to get a great feel of the place when it's dark but there are a ton of bright lights everywhere which I always find super exciting and the trains are quite clean which is also a bonus!

After fumbling our way around trying to figure out how to use the luggage lock systems in the carriage and trying to locate which train we need to be on next to get from Tokyo to Daiba (where we are staying) we decided to just cab it from our switch over station to our hotel. We struggled a bit to find the taxi rank - language was a slight barrier, we were well and truly fatigued by that point and we just had no idea how to work the train lines out so it was a mixture of, shit we are so confused already and fuck it, I'm tired let's try again tomorrow! Japanese train stations are massive, there are a thousand and one lines and we were just hangry, thirsty and ready for bed. We managed to find a taxi (after one driver refused us) that would take us and all our luggage into Daiba, where we are staying.

It was about a 20 minute cab ride and the street lights are amazing. As we were driving toward Daiba the cab driver pointed out Tokyo Tower to us and then Rainbow bridge and it was absolutely stunning - the bright lights and sheer size of the bridge was incredible & lucky for us we get to drive over it tonight to get to our hotel, eek!

Our accomodation is lovely, marble floors, bell boys to handle our luggage (& deliver them our room!), fabulous lights all around, fancy pants elevators & topping it all off, we have been allocated a room on level 20 with an amazingly spacious bathroom & a fabulous view over the city. We are very keen to sink our teeth into this city tomorrow and explore what Tokyo has to offer in the daylight. Good night x
