SophieMaree's Travel Adventures

After a big day yesterday it was backed up by my dad’s birthday today. I was so excited to make Dad’s birthday this year extra special as it was his first trip overseas and the first time we haven’t been at home for his birthday celebrations.

I woke up super early this morning and decorated the villa with tons of streamers, Happy Birthday banners and confetti. I even made a confetti path that led from his bedroom door, past the pool and into the kitchen where I had even organised for our Villa host to assist with extra balloons and the delivery of a beautiful big cake for us to enjoy.

I was cautious not to wake him too early as it was quite a late night last night and I wanted him to sleep in a bit for his birthday. Luke & I ended up waking dad up at about 9.30-10am only to find out that he had been up most of the night quite ill with a suspected case of Bali belly. Oh no! My dad was so nervous about getting Bali belly whilst he was here and of course, he would be the only one to get it. Bummer!

Dad eventually got up, had a look around & seemed quite stoked with what we had done. We had some breakfast and then back to bed he went to try and sleep of what he was feeling. I had been speaking with our villa host about arranging some pool side massages for my dad (& us while they were there) but unfortunately, in bed sick is where my dad remained for most of the day.

Luke & I entertained ourselves, making our own fun and just swimming in the pool for the majority of the day. We were really sad for dad, being sick on your birthday is the worst, let alone being in another country while you’re sick but there wasn’t much we could do about it so instead, we just used the day to chill out and relax - something we hadn’t really done since we arrived.

Later in the afternoon my dad started to feel slightly better so he came out to have a quick dip in the pool and we all took off to Seminyak Square for a quick spot of shopping. The day we had planned for my dad went out the window but whilst he was out and about, feeling okay for a little bit we took the opportunity to give him a little pamper & organised for a session at the foot spa with many little fishies cleansing the bottoms of our feet.

Getting the bottom of our feet cleaned by little fishies was definitely not something we had experienced before but we were in Bali, so why not! It was a super weird experience but was nice to see dad having a bit of a laugh and feeling a tad better for the time being. We strolled around the shops for a little while longer before heading back to our villa to chill in the pool some more.

It was a pretty relaxed day and with dad still not feeling too great we ended up ordering some pizza (which dad barely ate) sung Happy Birthday before eating the cake & sharing some laughs around the pool then dad went back to bed. Tomorrow is our last day in Bali so here’s to hoping that dad wakes up feeling much better so that we can go exploring once more before we head back home to Australia.
