SophieMaree's Travel Adventures

This morning didn't start off so well for me. We had to be checked out of our hotel by 11am and was hoping to eat some breakfast at one of the I-Hop pancake restaurants but unfortunately I woke spewing my guts up. Yep, it was awesome and I clearly am not getting any better.

I decided to use that as an excuse to have a bit of a sleep in then we packed our suitcases (everything fit in..just, thank god!) and check out of the our hotel. By this time it was nearing 12pm and was time to return our hire car then head on over to the airport to catch our 2pm flight into San Francisco.

We returned the car with no problems and then caught the free shuttle over to McCarran Domestic Airport. The airport was crazy, not overly big - I imagine because it was only the Domestic airport we were at but there were poker machines inside the airport. It was insane...I guess they really do enjoy their gambling in Vegas huh!

My bad start to the morning didn't end there, we rolled up to the check-in desk to be informed that our flight had been cancelled and all remaining flights into San Francisco were significantly delayed due to bad weather conditions upon landing into San Fran - great.

We originally booked with Virgin America however they couldn't get us onto another flight until 7pm that night. They were kind enough to transfer our details over to a company called JetBlue and asked us to head on over to the check in counter over there and see what they could offer us in terms of an earlier flight. They were able to book us onto their 3.10pm flight however mentioned that at this point in time that flight isn't due for take off until 5pm again due to the weather. It was the best we were going to get though so we booked it.

We grabbed some lunch at Burger King in the airport, it was pretty expensive and didn't taste that great. I then went into one of the little airport shops and purchased some sudafed, more cough lollies and some ear plugs to protect my ears when flying this time around...they only had kid plugs left but I purchased them anyway. Anything to avoid being in the horrendous pain I ended up in yesterday!

The weather cleared up a little and with some luck we were able to board the flight for take off at 4pm which was great. The flight was only an hour and 20 minutes so the was nice and easy and they offered us in flight chips and drinks for free which is always a bonus!

Upon arrival into San Francisco it was dark and raining but their were Christmas trees lit up everywhere. It was so pretty!

We caught a shuttle bus over to our hotel which was about a half hour drive away and then checked in. Our hotel isn't amazing if I'm honest, it's a little old, small and a bit run down. I found hotels in San Fran to be really old looking, small and expensive when trying to find a place to stay but the reviews on this one seemed ok and the website said it had a laundry (most of them didn't) so I booked it. I asked the reception about the laundry location as we had a ton of laundry that needed to be done and they informed me that they only had a laundry service that charged ridiculous prices for our clothes to be washed priced per item. pfft. We will need to use the laundromat down the street...We really will be living like locals for the next few days!

I guess Pete and I have just been a little too spoilt with our accomodation in the past that we got a bit of a shock when we arrived here. Oh well, after all we are in San Francisco so we will enjoy it as best we can while we are here!

Due to us getting in so late and it being dark and rainy we decided to order some pizza to be delivered to our room, taking advantage of the flight delay as a sign to have an earlyish night. Hopefully it works and I wake feeling better tomorrow...doubtful but hopeful.

Looking forward to a day of exploring the city tomorrow before heading over to Alcatraz tomorrow night. YAY :)
