SophieMaree's Travel Adventures

We woke early this morning for a lovely cooked breakfast. We had chefs come into the kitchen of our villa and make us a nice big breakky with bacon, eggs, sausages, toast, the lot. It was lovely and very nice enjoying a meal that I didn’t have to cook or clean up after – never happens at home ha

After breakfast I went back into our room for a nap, I am not feeling exhausted quite the opposite really but I do love a nice nap & woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. I jumped up, had a dip in the pool then headed on into town with Nat & Tracey for a girls day of shopping in the town centre. It didn’t take us long before we had our first purchase, then another, then another. Everything here is really nice & quite cheap.

After a morning of shopping we were nearing lunchtime, Tracey had recalled a lovely treetop restaurant she had visited previously and led us the way so we could have some lunch there. Again, she was completely right, this tree top restaurant was exactly that – a tree top restaurant. We walked up a lot of stairs and then into this cute little café that had the complete vibe as if you were in a tree top. Bird cages, fancy lights, tree branches & leaves with wooden furnishings all around – it was soo beautiful!

After lunch, we went and did a little more shopping but the weather was heating up so much, the humidity has really been hitting us the last few days so we decided it was time for a swim at the beach. We went to a local market, bought these amazing sarongs (because we forgot our towels) and then made our way over the beach for some time in the water & sun. We had to pay a small fee for 3x lounge chairs on the beach and the waiter bought over some drinks for us to sip on whilst we soaked up the rays, it was so lovely. We had a bit of a rest of the beach lounges before having a dip in the water. The water was surprisingly a little cold but it was soo hot outside I honestly didn’t mind lol

After we had a bit of a swim, we made our way back into the shore and had a nice nap on the beach chairs in the sun. It was a bit annoying, because even on the beach as you were resting there were local Balinese people walking around trying to sell you all sorts of crap, sunnies, watches, anklets, fake tattoos, handbags – everything and even after saying no to them, they would either just hover around you or would keep coming back to you in the off chance you may change your mind. It was a bit annoying but credit to them for trying, I get that this is their livelihood and if they didn’t do that then they can’t feed their families.

We spent a couple of hours at the beach before making our way back to the centre of town checking out some more market stalls on our way back through. Our taxi driver picked us up and took us back to the villa where we just spent the arvo chilling by the pool and drinking some more of our drinks. Pete was in the pool and by his sunburn looked like he had been in there most of the day! lol

Allan & Ian returned around 5pm, we did a bit more swimming in the pool then made our way into the centre of Kuta for our last dinner in Bali. We stopped off at the memorial in Kuta from the Bali bombings a few years ago, it looked like it was under construction but was very surreal to see exactly where it had all taken place not so long ago. We then bought tickets to an all you can eat, all you can drink buffet – sounded ok but we were advised we had to pay $15 AUD each and had to leave our bags downstairs in a locker…ok sure.

Once we got upstairs & saw the line and stink of body odour throughout the place it was a very quick decision to forgo our money and get the F#!K out of there. It absolutely stank and there were so many people in the place, I’d say partly because of how cheap it is and partly because after 7pm it turns into a nightclub…gross. We ended up deciding to go to Jamie’s Italian restaurant – we know Jamie’s, there is no BO and it definitely doesn’t turn into a nightclub after 7pm! Lol

After dinner, we explored some of the local markets some more before the Al & I stayed back to do some more shopping in Kuta with the rest of the crew heading back to our villa for swims. Al & I shopped around for a while & did a fair amount of walking I must say – so much so that my toes had blisters from walking around so much, I had to remove my thongs all together, which is really gross now I think about it…I was literally waking around Kuta with 1 shoe on,, blekk.

After some time, we realised it was just before midnight and most of the little shops were starting to close so we hailed a cab and made our way back the villa. We joined the rest of the family in the pool for another night swim then off too bed. Tomorrow the gang gets split up, Tracey flies home at about lunch time with the rest of us flying home (on different flights) at about 10pm.

I can’t believe we are almost at the end of our trip, wah.
