Back Down To Earth
Travel day was a long one from Nida to Riga. Left Nida at 9 am and didn't arrive in Riga until 6:40 pm. Once again the preconceptions were all wrong. Riga is a very progressive and happening kind of place. Kinda expected a bit of a smaller laid back place. Got to our AirBnb and then went for a supper. Cold and wet outside but ate at a place where there was an outdoor concert going on. Was fun and gave us a hint of the atmosphere of where we are at.
Did a tour of Riga old town on the 14th. Lots of interesting stuff but very similar to other places. A few castles and churches! Riga has a nouveau art quarter which is interesting. Spent the day just wandering around looking at different places. Really like this place.

Riga

Has a really interesting vibe! Went to a restaurant to finish our day. Traditional Latvian food but really cheap.
On the 15th (today), we went on a day trip to Sigulda. Right in the middle of a national park. Thought it would be a great day for a good nature hike. Did about 12km of hiking, but it was pretty easy flat walking for the most part. Still good to get out into the bush a little. We were tired by the time we finished, so we hopped back on the train to Riga and headed to our favourite Latvian restaurant. Had a great meal with a live jazz band. Was lots of fun! We were quite tired,
so we left at 10. We both would like to have stayed longer to enjoy a little Latvian nightlife, but we were both ready to crash. 2 more days here. May do a beach day tomorrow and some beer tasting on the last day! Unsure but I think it will be fun.
