Back Down To Earth
Last full day in Italy was reserved for a visit to the buried city of Pompeii. Thought it would be a disappointing pile of rubble, but it turned out to be quite an interesting place with some well preserved artifacts. The city was run in a lot of ways like cities today with street food vendors which were their versions of fast food. Amphitheaters big and small were very well preserved. Some of the places showed comfortable living which was at a premium in 200 BC. Big well organized place that was very busy and active. Placed died real quick when Mount Vesuvius exploded. Site had casts of people who died trying to get out. Casts were made when they were excavating the city. Makes you think how quickly life can change and end a happy life. All these terror attacks lately are a real reminder that it can all be over in an instant. Enjoy life and don't take things for granted. You never know when you will be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I guess Pompeii may be the world's greatest example of

that. Enjoyed my day at Pompeii and ends my Italy experience until next spring. Tomorrow is a bus to Bari and then a ferry to Montenegro.
