Back Down To Earth
Yesterday was a travel day back to Beijing. No story to tell as all went as planned. Arrived back in Beijing around 2:30 and just relaxed for the rest of the day at the same hostel as before. Was a nice day and a good day to rest my muscles from the last couple of days hiking.
Got up and was on the road to go to the Summer Palace by 8:15. Took me about an hour to get there as it is out a little from the centre. Nice place. Was pleasantly surprised! Thought it would be a lot like the Forbidden City but it really is a big park with a nice lake and some nice buildings. Disappointed the day wasn't as good as it could

Back to Beijing and Summer Palace...

Yesterday was a travel day back to Beijing. No story to tell as all went as planned. Arrived back in Beijing around 2:30 and just relaxed for the rest of the day at the same hostel as before. Was a nice day and a good day to rest my muscles from the last couple of days hiking.
Got up and was on the road to go to the Summer Palace by 8:15. Took me about an hour to get there as it is out a little from the centre. Nice place. Was pleasantly surprised! Thought it would be a lot like the Forbidden City but it really is a big park with a nice lake and some nice buildings. Disappointed the day wasn't as good as it could
be. I hiked around the lake and saw everything I could see. Seems like it could be a place of calm in this crazy big city. Problem today is the smog. Couldn't see across the lake at times. Put a picture in that looks like fog, but it is smog. Supposedly danger is at 50 and today is 180. Definitely you can feel it in your lungs. Since I couldn’t see the lake, I walked around it. Was a nice quiet walk away from the crowds. My trip there and back was about 6 hours. Enough for a day of sightseeing. Was very hungry when I left the Summer Palace so I broke down and got some KFC. My girls are going to yell at me! Anyway a good day all in all and a pleasant place to see!
