I kind of knew this was not going to be easy. The people that come to these places are usually couples or friends on vacation. Generally not the travel people I have been around. Going to take a real adjustment and a bit of patience. My first couple of days here have been what I wanted. I have laid on the beach, swam in the ocean, gone on walks. I had hoped to meet new people and have fun as well, but that is not as easy to do.
Got up on the 13th and decided to walk up the beach to the village. I had put my swim trunks on but had to keep pulling them up. Had lost too much weight on the treks. Nice little walk on the beach wandering in and out of the water. Didn’t see too many people as I wandered into the village. Very small place with not much there. I wandered in and out of shops until I found one that had swimming trunks. Lady showed me what she had and suggested a nice European style. Halfway to a speedo! Asked her if she thought they would fit and she said of course they would but I could try them on. I said where and she pointed at the next aisle. So I tried them on. They fit and I bought them. She asked me where I was staying and told me she was renting a room. I got on her scooter with her and went to a place that wasn’t bad and cheaper than my place, but no wifi and away from the beach. No one else staying as well so I told her thanks but no thanks. Walked back down the beach and laid down for a while with a couple of swims mixed in. Went back to my hut and sat on the veranda. Nice spot to sit and watch the world go by. I started my Spanish lessons online with Duolingo. Hope to do a half hour a day. Don’t think I can retain much more. Had supper alone. The people I had been talking to had found other friends so a quiet night.
Once again got up and went for a walk. Decided to go the other way down the beach. Went a little and found a nice spot so I tanned for a bit with a couple of swims. Decided to walk down further and then head inland to the road. Found the road but got lost and ended up back at the village. Quite a distance this time. Stopped back in the shop where I bought the swim trunks to say hello to the lady there and then headed back to the hut. Got back in time to do my Spanish lesson. Noticed there was a bit of a party starting in behind my hut so when it moved to the restaurant I thought I would go see what it was about. The American girl and another fellow I had met were part of this group, so I sat at a table beside them. I thought they would invite me to join but instead they invited others and left to go elsewhere. I was a bit disappointed about that but went back to my hut for a nap. Got up later and went for a supper by myself. The party group was now very drunk and having way too much fun. Went back to my hut to watch some Netflix and go to bed. The realization this crowd is going to be more difficult to get to know has dampened my spirits, but I just need to relax and go with the flow. I have lots to keep myself amused.
