Buenos Aires - Happy New Christmas

Buenos Aires

Christmas was approaching. Or at least the calendar said so, because the weather was definitely not Christmassy. Not even the fur imitating red Christmas decoration of the mirrors on public busses and Christmas trees in all public places could compete with the 30 degrees in the air, burning sun and flipflops.

We celebrated on the terrace overlooking the city from the 9th floor,

with asado, Rodri's family and friends. The asado was supposed to be Argentinian but we ended up overloading it with vegetables leaving only one small part for the meat-eaters. I, as the only vegetarian in the group, was collectively blamed for ruining the Argentinian asado, but in the end everyone was full and happy.

We had a nice dinner but the culmination was at midnight when suddenly the Argentinians opened Champain, the sky was lit up by multiple fireworks all over the city and everyone started hugging! We the foreigners - a Swede, a Russian, an Estonian and a Turk - did not understand what was happening - too early for the New Years celebration! Someone even said Happy New Year! Apparently, this is how you celebrate Christmas here.
