Balkans and Latin America

Sandanski and its surroundings have numerous curative hot springs but, unlike Budapest or Karlovy Vary, they have not yet been commercialized the Western way. One of such places is Rupite, a small village close to the city of Petrich and situated by the Kozhuh volcanic hill. The village is well known among mostly Bulgarian and Russian tourists thanks to the hot springs as well as the place where the Bulgarian medium Baba Vanga lived and died (an interesting fact, no matter what one thinks of the "medium" fenomena).

Rupite hot springs

September 27, 2016

Sandanski and its surroundings have numerous curative hot springs but, unlike Budapest or Karlovy Vary, they have not yet been commercialized the Western way. One of such places is Rupite, a small village close to the city of Petrich and situated by the Kozhuh volcanic hill. The village is well known among mostly Bulgarian and Russian tourists thanks to the hot springs as well as the place where the Bulgarian medium Baba Vanga lived and died (an interesting fact, no matter what one thinks of the "medium" fenomena).

Despite the more than simple facilities that should have been renovated long ago, the hot springs are somehow magic, probably thanks to this combination of the simplicity sometimes bordering with destruction and the beauty of the nature surrounding the place, the view of the volcano hill, the very special feeling of quietness.
