Balkans and Latin America

The time in Lima has been fantastic, mostly because of the great company and the amaaaaaazing food. Catching up with the university friends, sharing the last human rights gossips and rediscovering each other after years of being apart was the main activity. And also getting used to the humid, sticky and always present heat.

The city of Lima is one of the least visually appealing I've seen, with ugly modern half-finished buildings, terrible traffic jams everywhere, very long distances with bad public transportation. This city is situated in the desert area which implies lack of green areas. Also, the ugly constructions might most probably be explained by the earthquakes happening every now and then - why bother and bild something good if it will be destroyed anyway? However, some parts, like the historical center or the seaside barrio Miraflores are very pretty and definitely worth visiting.

The food, which is the main point of interest of many travellers here, is worth at least five separate chapters. I had no idea that there are hundreds of types of corn or potatoes, which are undisputably tastier than the ones typically available in the rest of the world. Every morning we had for breakfast fruits that I had never heard of, unbelievably tasty! As for the cuisine, the beauty of the peruvian food is in its fusion between inca and asian food and the excellent
