Sofia! Injuring the leg one week before the trip was a bad idea, so the visit to Bulgaria's capital was very brief and... I had to cancel the tango plans. Well, the more tango abstinence in Bulgaria, the better dancing in Argentina!
Sofia welcomed with a perfectly sunny weather and very friendly people. Not being able to walk a lot and having a very limited time in Sofia, I did not do many of the traditional sights. However, I met a friend of a friend, an amazing local girl who welcomed me to the city and was such a great host. Something that gives you more than any tourist book in the world.

Sofia, Bulgaria
So, Sofia in one snapshot:
- a big number of young people in the city centre
- a vibrant cultural life with live jazz bands, theaters etc.
- an international atmosphere, though most older people speak only Bulgarian
- a mix of new modern buildings and old buildings literally falling apart
- many flashbacks from the soviet past.
Here are some pictures: the view from my friend's apartment; a random pretentious building; an amazing Serdika metro station whith the entrance opposite the mosque and with ruins of the ancient city of Serdika incorporated directly into the interior of the metro station; and a ruinous building in the beginning of the pedestrian street Vitosha just in the city center.
