We were based in Pisco in a small hotel with the sea view (sounds better than it is though). What I remember most from the city is an extremely intensive smell of fish oil and old raw fish due to the fish industry, and the sand wherever you look. This place is one of the most seismically active areas, which as well affects the design of the houses - why build tall beautifull buildings if they most probably will be destroyed by the next earthquake anyway.
Pisco and Ica themselves are not interesting. What is worth seeing is the desert oasis Huacachina. We spend the whole day in this magical place. The girls took the extreme sandcar tour, where a sandcar drives on the highest speed up and down the dunas, and afterwards you slide down the sand on sandboards. I preferred climbing up on the highest duna to enjoy the view. After quite an exhaustive hike, with sand in my teeth, hair and eyes, I was finally on the top, watching this miracle and sharing impressions with new friends from Argentina and Sweden. One of the highlights from the trip!
