Peace and Love Tour
Today we are half way through our trip. We got and left for the Seafarers Club p at 9 O’Clock. We weren’t leaving Port Hedland today because we were staying another night. At the Seafarer’s club they showed us a slide show with information and videos on the life of a transport ship. About 8 people die a year on average on the ships coming in and out of Port Hedland. Four of them from natural causes such as liver or heart problems that have nothing to do with working on the ship. Two come from industrial accidents and two come from going over board. When that happens the police have to come in and decide whether he A. jumped B. slipped/fell and C. was pushed. The sailors have 28 days or more on a ship on a round trip. In that time they only get 4 to 8 hours on land which they spend at the Seafarers Club buying treats, playing on the pool table or using the WiFi. We had a boat tour of the port and saw the ships being loaded with iron ore and salt. We also picked up Seafarers coming ashore for their shore leave. The Seafarer’s Club is run by a Christian charity. Next we had lunch at maccas, yay! Then we went to the shops and we got a present for my Dad’s birthday while he stocked up on food. Next we went back and played on our screens and later on we went for another short swim
