Peace and Love Tour

Today we drove to Alice Springs, we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn again but this time going South. First we visited the Telegraph Station, where we climbed a hill with a great view of Alice Springs and looked at the old buildings from when Alice Springs used to be a small telegraph station in the middle of the bush. The overland telegraph line was built to connect Darwin to Adelaide using 36 000 poles. Alice Springs actually used to be called Stuart. Later it was renamed Alice Springs but the person called Alice who it was named after never visited and then later they found out there isn’t actually a spring there either. We also saw the old fashioned cells (batteries) made from copper solution and zinc which they used to power the telegraph station so messages could be sent by mores code across the country. Next we set up at the caravan park and tried out the waterslide, pool and jumping pillow. Then we slacked around until bed time.
