In the summer of 1970, I went on a five-week, 10,000 mile, cross country road trip with three high school friends. Without question, that trip sparked my interest in seeing the world. In the spring of 2007, I went on a 10 day southern road trip with two friends (Tracy Plass and Tim Allen ... Tim also being a member of the 1970 trip) which created the idea of going back some day on a longer trip. As working on a full time was a great inhibitor of doing anything else on an extended basis, this idea had to wait until the retirement days. Well those days are here, and the trip can begin.
While I had envisioned this trip as one of exploring small town America in a detail that no one else would want to do, I had assumed it would be a solo journey. But as I talked about it with JoAnne, I realized there were many great places that we both wanted to see. So, the plan evolved into a trip for both of us that would include the most interesting and beautiful places in the Southeast United States. And that is what we hope to share with you as we go ...
