Still waiting for Spring to arrive, as it was colder than ever today. However, we had clear blue skies throughout the day. I got up for sunrise at Jennette’s Pier. To call it a large fishing pier would be putting it mildly. Having been destroyed by hurricanes several times over the past 100 years, they have finally built something that might be hurricane-proof. They rent equipment to anyone who wants to fish, provide marine education programs, utilize renewable energy sources, and have a beautiful room overlooking the ocean for wedding receptions.
Later in the day, we climbed the highest sand dunes in the east at Jockey Ridge State Park and ended our day at the Wright Brothers Memorial. While their first flights were not very long, it is incredible where their vision led in the years that followed. The memorial is where they tested their gliders and executed their first mechanical flights. Right on the grounds is a little airstrip where pilots can fly in and pay homage to the two men that flew first.
