JoAnne and Kevin's Southern Road Trip

Based on its Country & Western history, Nashville has dubbed itself as “Music City”. I might argue that New Orleans and Memphis could use that name as well. Be that as it may, we spent a long day exploring Nashville and its music offerings. The day started at the Musicians Hall of Fame, which we picked over the Country Music Hall of Fame, due to its focus on all kinds of music, not just country. The movies and interactive exhibits were lots of fun. I played several guitar riffs on an electric (pushbutton) guitar.

Similar to Memphis, Nashville has one street (Broadway) where most of the live music bars are located. Everything sounded good, so we picked one and spent the afternoon there. The group had a female singer, who did everything from “Me and Bobbie McGee” to “Sweet Caroline”. It was so good, so good, so good …

We then when to the Country Music Classics show at the old Grand Ole Opry site, now called Ryman Auditorium. The Gatlin Brothers were the headliners and their featured guest was Crystal Gayle, who sang her signature song, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Everything about this show was good. A great experience.

We finished the night back at another Country & Western bar and heard another really good group. If you could do justice to Nashville in one day, we might have done it.
