Hop on hop off bus day ..... we made our way to stop one at the Marques do Pombal & purchased our tickets, we waited about 10 mins & then boarded our bus, we started off on the red line which included the old sections of the city, past the aqueduct & Belém. We hopped off at the Torre de Belém & walked back along the foreshore towards the Doca de Belém monument, we crossed under the road towards the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos & headed towards Pasteis de Belém to purchase a Portuguese tart as our host had said this was the best bakery. We then headed back to the Torre to re- board the bus, hopping off again in two stops to purchase a roll & wrap for lunch & head up to the Jardim Ducla Soares Medico to eat our lunch & enjoy the view down to the river Tejo before hopping back on near the museu dos Coches. We hopped off at stop 18, Cais do Sodre to change to the blue line which headed into the port & further along the foreshore, past where the world expo was held in 1998. This area was rather like the docklands in Melbourne with lots of apartment blocks, the casino, shopping centre, train & bus stations. We headed back inland & passed the airport, we could have caught the hop on hop off bus instead of a taxi!!! We completed our circuit back to the Marques de Pombal & hopped off. We think the ticket is valid for 48 hours so will use the bus again tomorrow when we explore Castelo the highest part of the city near the river which you can see in one of yesterday’s photos. Richard is making an omelette with bacon, tomatoes, cheese & courgettes for dinner & we’ve purchased a bottle of Sangria, fingers crossed it’s not too sweet.
