Richard read that it was an 80% chance of precipitation, not something I wanted to hear as we had booked to climb the Philippe Le Bon tower. Luckily there was no rain & it was really quite pleasant up the tower at 11.30am.
Beautiful views across Dijon, so nice to be in a city with no high rises to spoil the view & lovely to see the colourful roofs from a different angle. The coloured glazed tiles used on the roofs are a Burgundy tradition, a status symbol of the building owner. The tower was built by Philippe Le Bon to show off his wealth, it’s 46 metres reached by climbing 316 steps. As we neared the top there were some decorations on the cornices, some grapevines as Dijon is in Burgundy, a snail, they think because of the spiral staircase, the bat to ward off evil spirits & three figures they think being the designer & builders. After climbing the tower we visited Philip the bold & John the fearlesses tombs before heading to Placette Garibaldi to see the bust & painted wall a tribute to Garibaldi who helped defend Dijon during the 1870 war. As well as the lovely colourful roofs I’ve loved the metal shop signs. We then headed home through Place de la Republique & Place du 30 Octobre.
We have finalised & ordered the Moroccon diary.
We had leftovers for dinner, risotto & fettuccine bolognaise, yum.
