After breakfast & packing I again found a good coffee shop on our last day!! It was really busy & just around the corner from our apartment, the going out for breakfast crowd were packed in here.
We left the apartment at 10.15 & wandered across to the train station, we didn’t have reserved seats but the train wasn’t too busy. We were late arriving into the station at Antwerpen-Berchem but still had 30 mins or so to change platforms & buy some lunch. Our next train was really busy & no reserved seats. Luckily I found two seats with two fold up seats at the end of the carriage so we had room for our bags.
We arrived at Amsterdam central on time & headed to purchase tickets & find the metro. I still can’t believe the tickets (plastic cards like a Miki) were €7.50 without any money for travel being loaded on!! We thought we were following the metro signs but ended up at the tram station so hopped on a tram. It seemed a confusing system, they have entry & exit doors but it’s hard to tell that once the doors have opened, there was also an information/help desk & the lady seemed to spend the whole trip telling people they were trying to go out the wrong door. Amstelstation was the end of the tram line, it was nice to see the city from a tram. We exited the tram & luckily my data was working & we made our way to the apartment, about 15 mins later than we’d planned. We met our host, for this apartment Richard had had to write a bit about himself, luckily the lady liked what he’d written!! She had recently returned from Melbourne & loved it so I think that helped.
It’s her apartment & she does at times live here but is currently staying with her boyfriend. Due to regulations she is only able to rent out her apartment for 30 days in total a year through AirBnB. It’s a lovely apartment & if I lean out the French doors I can see the Amstel canal at the end of our street. This duck had five ducklings swimming in the canal.
We headed to the supermarket, purchased dinner & breakfast items & then discovered supermarkets in The Netherlands don’t take Visa or MasterCard credit cards, only cash or Netherlands credit cards. Luckily we had just enough cash for our groceries.
