We didn’t wake until about 8am, we are really embracing this Mediterranean lifestyle lol ..... dinner late & sleeping in.
We had breakfast & listened to the start of the Richmond V Carlton AFL football game, Tom Lynch kicked the opening goal of the season. Richmond went onto win although Alex Rance might be out for the season with an ACL injury.
We headed out & wound our way to Carrera del Darro, it was lovely, a very narrow street with a stream, Richard said it reminded him of Durham. I’d researched & headed to Durán Barista for a coffee, I was told they were only serving a buffet breakfast but luckily one of the posts I’d read mentioned this & said they would do a takeaway & they did, it was nice coffee. We continued on to Sacromonte, white houses build into the side of the hill, we looked for the museum in a cave but couldn’t locate it, we saw a sign pointing back the way we’d come but still couldn’t locate.
We continued up the hill to what was supposed to be a good view point & it was, we actually went into the gardens of a mosque which were beautiful, quiet & gave a fantastic view of Alhambra & the snow covered hills behind. Granada could be used for a chocolate box picture & reminded me of Cooktown in New Zealand South Island. I then realised we were close to one of the tapas bars that Ricardo had recommended & as Richard needed the toilet (public toilets have proved hard to find, a couple of times in Seville we walked out of our way back to a toilet).


The tapas bar, Casa Tozcuato was lovely, we order two glasses of a dry white (descomunal, a young white wine) from the Granada region which was lovely & also received two tapas, it was a grilled, with char lines, piece of pork, like thicker bacon with a mustard drizzle on top & some deep fried potato cubes with an anchovy mayonnaise, it was delicious, we then ordered two glasses of a local Granada red wine (seniority de Nevada) & received bacalao (cod) with cabbage & goats cheese, again delicious. I didn’t want to drink anything else but we ordered a beer for Richard & also atardecer san Nicolas, we received lamb in a beautiful stock based sauce with potatoes & also a martini glass with we think whipped goats cheese, an egg we think was sous vide, caramelised onions & anchovy. Both were delicious & we’re really not sure which is the atardecer san Nicholas, we’re guessing the lamb. It was fantastic & all for €19.40, current exchange rate $31. We walked down lots of steps & headed towards the Basilica San Juan de Dios but it was after 2pm by then & it was closed until 4.30pm so we headed home.
We had a rest & then headed out to walk to the river & then along the river, we didn’t make the river but did have a nice walk!! I’m missing the Hoddle grid lol, Seville & Granada have both been full of small lanes that curve making going from A to B very hard, but they are great for just wondering about. On our way back we stopped in the supermarket & purchased Arborio rice, squid, tomatoes, courgette & some fish stock. I caused a tray of rice to fall into the corner between two shelves, the tray obviously wasn’t very stable as all I did was lift the package of rice in the corner nearest me & the whole tray fell down .... oops, make rather a loud bang but nobody came. We returned home & I did the ironing, we had something to eat about 7.45pm. The risotto was delicious, the stock amazing, wish we could get rice & fish stock like that in Australia. We both watched something on Netflix & then went to bed.
