Europe

It was a public holiday in France for May Day today, all the shops & cafes were shut but we had checked & the Caen Memorial was open.
We walked & it took us 30 mins, after a quick coffee in the cafe we headed into the 1st exhibition, wow, not sure I can describe it, it was really good. It was titled 1918 - 1939, the failure of Peace, it was a mixture of information, photos, newspaper, artefacts & moving pictures, including news reel footage & very well presented in chronological order. Next was resistance & collaboration France in the dark years & then world war, total war. Then D-Day landing & the battle of Normandy.
We then headed to the cafe for lunch & back to see the movie 1944 savings Europe which went for 20 mins, we then went to the exhibition on Berlin 1945 - 1989, the Cold War chronologically & the confrontation. We then headed down to the bunker, actually used by the Germans during WWII. We then had a wander around the American memorial garden, we had wanted to go to the British but lost the signs.
We then made our way home arriving home just after 5pm, we left our apartment just after 10am, what an amazing memorial.
Richard made risotto for dinner & it was amazing, the prawns we brought yesterday helped make a great stock & they tasted delicious.
