We awoke to rain, Richard had also heard rain during the night but the forecast showed the day improving which it did.
Just after 9 we headed back down the steps & made our way to Boulders Beach about 2kms along the foreshore to meet some locals ..... African Penguin.
Being quite early it was quiet & we enjoyed watching the penguins on the beach & nesting in the dunes, we then walked along the boardwalk to a 2nd viewing area & saw a number of penguins in the dunes on our way, we also saw 4 dassies & a cape Bulbul.
We walked further along to the bathing beach where people are able to share the beach & the water with the penguins, but having only spotted 2 penguins & far more humans we didn’t venture onto the beach.
It was amazing, whilst not as theatrical as the penguin parade at Phillip Island, it was certainly far more accessible the park being open dawn to dusk. We saw eggs, young chicks still in the nest, downy penguins & those still with their fluffy non- waterproof feathers.
We looked for the blue door coffee roasters along Thomas Street on our way home but couldn’t find them. Upon checking trip advisor it looked like they had moved to the Harbour Town shopping centre so we planned to stop there on our way to St James, being a fairly new shopping centre it wasn’t well signposted & we were past it before we realised. We continued onto St James & walked along the foreshore to see the colourful bathing boxes, not as varied in decoration as the Brighton boxes but very colourful.
These boxes are also available for the public to use. We are not sure who ate all the mussels!!
I watched for the shopping centre entrance on the way home & I got my coffee about 12.30 along with a toasted ham & cheese croissant, well worth the wait, 2nd best coffee since I’ve been here (the 1st still being at the V&A waterfront).
We shopped in the pick & pay & had a quiet afternoon, Richard had a nap & I read & have got up to date with my diary & posting photos to FB.
Our accommodation has an induction stove & Richard is planning to cook dried spinach pasta with a fresh tomato, garlic & white wine sauce.
