South Africa

We headed over for breakfast which was served in the manor house, it was set along 1 really big table, seating approximately 30 people. Fruit, cereal & a juice were available to help yourself, with tea & coffee & a choice of 4 breakfasts being ordered.
Following breakfast as it was already 35 oc we decided to drive up to the monument rather than walk (a 2 hour round trip to walk). The Afrikaans language monument commemorates the semicentenary of the Afrikaans being declared an offical language of South Africa.
The monument was quite spectacular & the views of the surrounding mountains, on a clear day you can see the table mountain range unfortunately today there was a heat haze.
We then drove into the Paarl mountain nature reserve & towards the summit where we found a lovely pond with lilies & watched a few fish chasing the insects. We climbed part way up to the top but the sun was really hot.
This afternoon I sat on the stoep & completed some of my cross stitch & then cooled off in the pool.
We showered & went for a walk around the vineyard as it was much cooler & there was a pleasant breeze, we enjoyed sampling some of the grapes picked straight from the vines, some were really sweet & others rather tart, they all contained a large number of pips for their size, it was Richard’s 1st experience of trying grapes grown for wine. We then headed to the restaurant only to discover it closes at 5 pm on a Sunday, so we made a quick dash to Woolworths for salad, quiche, some bread & pecan & cashew tartlets for dessert.

Richard selected a red wine as the white wine cooler had already been locked as it was close to closing only to discover in the queue it wasn’t a screw top!! He swoped it for a screw top.
Such a shame I was looking forward to another glass of the rose brut sparkling I had last night, hopefully I can purchase a couple of bottles tomorrow before we check out.
No luck with the sparkling unfortunately, will just have to keep my eyes open for it.
