South Africa

We had a lovely sunset last night.
This morning after finishing our packing we went for a walk along the beach.
No wind & the air smelled of subtle wood smoke I think there were a few braais lite (South African BBQs, in our cottage we had both an outside & an inside braais).
On the beach we saw a boy riding a bicycle & I also worked out that the lady in the tourist information centre must have looked out of the windows to see if there were boats trailers, as today there were approximately 20 on the beach along with a few 4 wheel drives.
We returned back to the cottage, packed the car & dropped the key off & drove a few kms out of town & stopped at a coffee shop, the coffee was lovely & what a view!!
We travelled south & inland passing lots of bailed hay, sheep, cows & a wind farm before our brown surrounding became greener with a number of vineyards & fruit orchards. We even passed a reservoir where people looked like they were fishing. We saw flocks of what we think were house Martins, holidaying in warmer climes before heading back to Europe to breed.
We arrived in Paarl at about 1pm & we’re able to check into our room at The Laborie Estate. After unpacking the car we headed out to find lunch. We ate at the mountain & moon which was really nice & returned to Laborie to check out their restaurants & also the pool. We’ve left the cooler coast with temperatures in the mid 20s to come inland to temperatures in the mid 30s.

I’m sitting on our stoep watching the squirrels chasing each other across the grass & also a couple of duck (I think that’s what they are). The restaurants at Laborie were really busy when we arrived, with the car park almost full, it’s now much quieter with the car park nearly empty.
We had dinner in the winery restaurant, I enjoyed a lovely glass of rose brut sparkling made in the traditional French style & Richard enjoyed a Shiraz, both house wines produced by Taillefert.
We enjoyed the company of the wineries dog during our meal, Richard especially enjoyed this & I think the dog received a few treats, we also watched some young boys playing football before & after their meal. Beautiful evening with a great view over the vines, watching the suns shadow creep higher & higher up the mountain range.
