South Africa

The cicadas had been active again last night & it was again about 8am when we had our bed tea & coffee. Then the power went off again, it was about 8.10am so earlier than yesterday.
We had breakfast & used a pot to boil water for 2nd cups. Richard again went out for a walk & I went back to bed to read. I had a shower by candle light (Richard had showered by candlelight the previous night) & got dressed.
The power came back on at 10.30am & we headed out to get a coffee at 11am & also to see if the business centre had received my email to print.
We found coffee which was ok & then headed to the business centre to collect my printing. The internet was down when we arrived, how hard it must be to run a business here with load shedding & internet dropouts. The lady suggested the library & we walked along there. Their e centre was offline but I was able to log into a computer & print my tax items!! We then had some lunch & have come back to our studio whilst the power is on, due for more load shedding 4 - 6.30 tonight as we guess the same tomorrow morning. Richard is going to email the Bakoven host to ask about load shedding there as trying to decipher the schedule isn’t easy when you don’t know the electricity region etc.
I’ve managed to get caught up on my diary & later we plan to go out for a walk. I’m in the garden, our host has 3 dogs & they seem to be taking it in turns to want stroking, it’s nice to have the company though.

We headed off for a walk in lovely sunshine with a nice cool breeze at about 4pm after an afternoon cup of tea & piece of cake.
We walked all the way through the town & then entered the nature reserve, we choose the green Platkloof walk, which followed a valley into the mountain range & back out again & was an hour walk, we walked from our accommodation so we estimated a round trip of about 2 hours. The walk was lovely through the proteas which in a couple of months will be beautiful along with a number of other flowers coming into bud, we crossed a small stream & then started to climb, zigzagging along. It was rather steep coming back down & I did slip over, unfortunately didn’t have my walking shoes on, but managed to save the camera. We then came to a cross pathway & turned right, we didn’t get far along the path & decided this was really familiar with the start of the walk so we turned back & went left from the original path, we then came across the dam, there was a narrow walk with some of the overflow cascading across, at this point it started spitting lightly with rain & I had a mild panic attack thinking I needed to cross the dam walk & having already slipped & knowing my balance isn’t very good, I DIDNT LIKE IT. No phone service but I had saved a very rough map onto my iPad & luckily when I checked it showed that we didn’t need to cross the dam, we walked back to the cross path again & took the 1 remaining direction, which I soon realised was talking us totally in the wrong direction, Richard took a bit of convincing but soon agreed, so it was back to the cross path & the 1st direction we’d taken & yes soon the nature reserves entrance was in sight .... thank goodness.
We returned to the studio & the power was still off until 6.30, we started to get changed for dinner, the power came on & we headed out. Most restaurants are closed Monday & Tuesday in Greyton but we thought the restaurant we ate at yesterday & 1854 were open, I was keen on a wood fired pizza from last nights restaurant, Richard suggested a drink at 1854 & then we’d decide.
The decision was made for us as 1854 was the only restaurant open. We sat down at approximately 7.15 & the restaurant was already busy with quite a few tables coming in after us. It took a while for a drinks order (we gave our food order at the same time) to be taken. We were only having a main meal, calamari for Richard & prawns for me. We waited more than 2 hours for our meals, we checked 3 times that our order had been placed with the kitchen but apart from the last time when the waiter said it was being plated & prawns took a while we’d had no communication, tables who arrived after us had been receiving meals, we’d finished our wine & Richard had ordered a glass when our meals arrived. Richards calamari was nice & so were my prawns, unfortunately my chips looked like they’d only been blanched & the salad had no dressing, very disappointing, I have emailed some feedback but have had a bounce back from 2 addresses, I’ve even tried the contact “box” on their website.
A shame really as even though we’d had electricity load shedding we’d loved Greyton & this was our 1 st bad experience in a restaurant.
