South Africa

We had set the alarm & woke to find a large table cloth on the mountain. After packing & breakfast we attempted to leave the car park, for the last 2 days the gate hadn’t been working properly, it had a note to open & close manually but when I tried I couldn’t move it & the electric clicker only opened the gate 1/3rd of the way which wasn’t wide enough To drive through. A gentleman was tidying the garden & came to assist us but it still wasn’t working, he went to knock on a flat & in the meantime Richard forced the gate little by little open. No idea if that broke it further but at least we could leave!!
We dropped the key into a letter box & headed to the airport to drop our car back & Check-in for our flight to Johannesburg.
We dropped the car off & I had a coffee at the airport & we had a wonder around for a while, the car had to be returned by 9am but our flight wasn’t until 11.45am.
We sat at the departure gate using the free wifi & then boarded the plane. Uneventful flight to Johannesburg & we landed to heavy rain. We collected our bags luckily nothing was taken, & headed to the Gautrain. Richard purchased the tickets which were cards like our Miki’s & loaded sufficient rand for our journey. The train was at the platform & left within a few minutes. We had to change trains at Sandton & went 1 stop to Rosebank. We waited 23 minutes for the 2nd train. I was eating the rest of my cranberry & muesli muffin when the platform security person told me you weren’t allowed to eat. Very strange as I hadn’t seen any signs, I’m assuming you wouldn’t be able to have your morning coffee either. We arrived at Rosebank station & turned right knowing our apartment was only a 5 min walk.
I then noticed another station exit & asked security if we’d walked the right way, which we hadn’t. Luckily it had stopped raining but was really wet with big puddles of water. We found our apartment easily & collected our key from the key safe. The apartment block seemed really busy with a lot of young people. Richard headed out to get some milk so I could make a cup of tea & finish my muffin!!!
We then headed to the supermarket for some breakfast items. We were both feeling worn out & wanted a quick meal. We settled on Tashas, she has a number of restaurants, I think some are franchises, a copy of her cookbook is in our apartment. The Rosebank restaurants theme is inspired by New York. I settled on mac & cheese with a green side salad & Richard had a Central Park burger with curly fries. It was great. My mac & cheese was made with bechamel sauce with cheddar, gruyere & parmesan cheeses & served with crispy bacon, the side salad had cos lettuce, cucumber & avocado, it was just what I wanted.
