Nantes, France

Today was our first full day in Florence. I was really excited to explore the city! And Florence did not disappoint.

First on our agenda was to take a trip to the Boboli Gardens. On our way, we passed many markets, including a chocolate market. There were about 10 tents selling different kinds of chocolate. All the vendors had crafted their chocolates to look like different things. One had chocolates that looked like household tools, such as hammers, saws, and drills. Another had animal-shaped chocolates that looked simply too good to eat.

Florence, Italy

Today was our first full day in Florence. I was really excited to explore the city! And Florence did not disappoint.

First on our agenda was to take a trip to the Boboli Gardens. On our way, we passed many markets, including a chocolate market. There were about 10 tents selling different kinds of chocolate. All the vendors had crafted their chocolates to look like different things. One had chocolates that looked like household tools, such as hammers, saws, and drills. Another had animal-shaped chocolates that looked simply too good to eat.

After dragging myself away from the chocolate, I finally reached the gardens. It was very unique. The entire thing was uphill, so it was much more of a workout than I had anticipated, but the views from the top were incredible. Lining the paths uphill were fountains, statues, archways made out of trees, and well-shaped hedges. It was beautiful. Parts of the garden actually made me felt like I was in nature! It was really cool. And the best part was that every time I looked behind me, I was rewarded with incredible views of the city.

Next, we had a well-deserved lunch. I had a plain pizza, but it was much better than any I'd had in the US or France.

After lunch, we went on another hike, this time to the Piazzale Michelangelo. I climbed about a thousand stairs, but reached one of the most breath-taking views imaginable. I looked out on the entire

city of Florence and it was exactly like the pictures. Words can't really do the view justice, so I'll just post some pictures.

Next, we went back to our hostel, but shopped along the way. We crossed the famous bridge called Ponte Vecchio that is lined with stores. We stopped in as many stores as possible, and every store smelled like Italian leather. There were so many leather shops and markets that it was impossible not to buy something! At first, I could not figure out why there was so much leather, but I finally put it together that Italian leather is a thing.
